CHALLENGING TRANSITIONS

CHALLENGING TRANSITIONS is a therapy and coaching practice. Mary Kelly-Williams, M.A. is a psychotherapist who has been working with individuals, couples and families for over 15 years. She helps her clients learn to navigate their way through various transitions, whether they be major life changes such as job changes, geographical moves, death of a loved one or more subtle shifts that are normal parts of life but all requiring the need for the reshaping and redesigning of their lives.

Transitions are a normal part of life.  “The nature of life is change”, as much as we may resent or resist this.  Nature displays this change and serves as a reminder to us through the seasons that there are many different seasons to our lives, whether we want to accept that or not.

Another expression that rings true is “That which we resist…persists.”

When we resist the changes in our lives, or we stubbornly refuse to see them in a positive light, we suffer.

Transitions are like growing pains.  It’s not pleasant when we are going through them, but hindsight can become 20/20 and we can always find treasures in the ashes…always.

Resisting the tendency to spend time in regret or idealize choices not made, living in the present and becoming solution oriented is the pathway through the maze of transition.

Adding a sense of humor to our life changes always helps.  We certainly aren’t the first to experience them and we won’t be the last.

It’s not that transitions happen…transitions are as predictable as taxes and death.   It’s HOW we manage and interpret our transitions that make the difference between resentment and optimism.

Mary also offers help for those who are going through the difficult process of divorce and the complex task of remarriage and combining families.

Mary works in “real world” time meaning that she focuses on the here and now, helps clients create realistic and attainable goals in order to see results in as short a period of time as possible.

This includes purposes and outcomes, homework and encouraging her clients to take an active role in living a fully integrated and healthy life.
